The spookiest day of the year is just around the corner! Lots of Halloween treats are packed with sugar, so you probably want to balance things out with a few healthier snacks. These treats are spooky, delicious and nutritious, so you can feel good about sharing them with your family every single day in October!
BOO-nana pops
A tasty frozen treat that is so much better for you than ice cream! These banana pops, made to look like little ghosts, are sure to thrill and delight your little ones. Simply break your bananas in half, put them on a popsicle stick and freeze them. Once frozen, dip them in white chocolate and add two chocolate chips for eyes and one for a mouth.
Mandarin orange jack-o’-lanterns
These simple jack-o’-lanterns make great additions to lunchboxes! Simply take a black marker and draw a toothy smile and two triangles for eyes on the mandarin orange peel (no need to worry about toxicity from the markers, as you will be throwing the orange peel away!). You could even try out different pumpkin faces: scary, angry, frightened or shocked. Your imagination and artistic skills are your only limits!
Witch’s brew green smoothie
Usually, it can be a bit of a struggle to get kids to eat something green. But tell them it’s a magic potion concocted by an evil witch, and they’ll be scarfing down this smoothie in no time! Start with light-colored fruit (bananas and frozen pineapples are great options) and a liquid of your choice (fruit juice or milk). Then throw in a handful of spinach — we promise no one will be able to taste it!
Haunted cheese sticks
Grab your black marker again to take mozzarella cheese sticks from simple to scary! Just draw circles on the cheese stick wrapper to create ghoulish eyes and a mouth. So much more fun than regular cheese sticks!
Monster mouth apple slices
Children will feel like little monsters themselves as they chow down on these tasty monster mouths! Slice up Granny Smith apples, spread peanut butter on them and use raisins, craisins or something similar to make the teeth. Tip: play the “Monster Mash” song while snacking for extra Halloween fun!
Enjoy the spooky season with one or all of these snacks! You can find all the ingredients you need (as well as other Halloween essentials) at our store. Stop on by and stock up!
